Brookfield Place Sydney comprises a PCA Premium Grade 6 Star Green Star-rated office tower, two restored heritage buildings, premium retail, and a world-class transit hall for Wynyard Station. The glazed 27-storey office tower, 10 Carrington Street is sculpted to respond to the rhythm of its city block, appearing as a series of interlocking orthogonal blocks of differing scale, merging heritage buildings with the new build tower. At 133 meters high, the central and tallest block accentuates the overall height, while the other two step down to reduce the overall volume and preserve sunlight.

A key aim for the project was to improve permeability and access to the station and through to Carrington Street and Wynyard park. The project began by assembling four separate sites including the former Menzies Hotel and Thakral House sites, and the retained heritage listed buildings (Shell House and 285 George Street), uniting them into one reinvigorated block that rises out of the reconfigured transit hall of Wynyard Station. The key design-move to unlock the project was to suspend the central office core, using mega-columns in the boundary walls to support the building’s shear load, much like the flying buttresses of a Gothic cathedral. This transformed the access to the station which previously funneled passengers down dimly-lit passageways around the former core of the building above. Two heritage buildings have been restored and incorporated as key features - 285 George Street provides boutique commercial workspace and ground floor retail whilst Shell House on Carrington Street is now a new main entrance for the anchor tenant.
