Designed to ensure that there are active frontages on all sides of the block, the development stands out as a vision for how an intense and diverse mixed-use scheme can contribute to the urban fabric. A key objective was to encourage small and medium-sized enterprises. One Crown Place provides different scales of office and affordable workspace (before it was adopted as Planning Policy). The office design supports worker well-being and productivity, providing comfort through natural light, ventilation and air conditioning, and visual interest. Active travel is supported with 302 bicycle parking spaces and lockers that are part of the main building entry, plus 14 showers.

The residences of the development are oriented to maximize daylight and views, with operable windows and comfort cooling for residents’ comfort, while winter gardens and terraces provide private amenity space. A communal seventh floor provides an extension to the home with a landscaped terrace, shared spaces to foster a sense of community among residents, and spaces to host private guests. There is also a work hub provided as an alternative location for people wanting to work from home. At the heart of the site, a central courtyard is a new public space that provides amenity space for office workers, seating for the hotel restaurant and an entrance to residences.
