Tracks
On Tuesday and Wednesday, 24 and 25 September, convene with global thought leaders in presentations and panel discussions on the theme of New or Renew: Addressing the Density Dilemma. Over two days of the core conference, delegates will participate in sessions, organized in nine parallel tracks, that relate to this overarching idea, in addition to the opening and closing plenary sessions (where all delegates are assembled in one hall).
Tracks that will be featured at the CTBUH 2024 International Conference include:
Track A
New or Renew: The United Kingdom

Today, the United Kingdom faces unprecedented climate and housing challenges, while government initiatives are pushing for carbon neutrality and a “retrofit first” consideration of building sites with existing structures. This is a pivotal, exciting time to be involved in city-making in Britain.

- Adaptive reuse and repositioning of existing projects
- Sustainable approaches to constructing new projects
- How key “new vs. renew” decisions were made

Track B
New or Renew: Technical Innovation

This track focuses on technical innovations that will propel the industry forward, featuring design proposals and visions that that will soon shape our cities, skylines, and push existing technical and structural limits.

- The most promising projects on the drawing board today
- Systems design approaches that will make a difference in operational performance
- Innovations in materials, products, and methodologies that will improve the way we build in the near future

Track C
The CTBUH Best Tall Building Award

The Best Tall Building Award recognizes projects that have made extraordinary contributions to the advancement of tall buildings and the urban environment, and that achieve sustainability and human well-being at the highest and broadest level.
Topics in this track include:
- A global array of envelope-pushing tall building case studies
- Developers’ and architects’ perspectives on the project arc, from conception to construction
- The public role in, and perception of, tall building projects from around the world

Track D
New or Renew: Buildings—Global Issues

This track spans the globe, embracing fundamental questions of tall buildings’ ongoing viability amidst a variety of challenges.
Topics in this track include:
- Considerations that should be taken after a new-build or renewal construction program completes
- The real-life performance of tall buildings in their first decade of operation
- The validation of functional and interior space design choices in key tall buildings, over time
- Highlighting existing tall buildings exemplary work through adaptive re-use, renovations, functional changes, and the like

Track E
New or Renew: The Carbon Equation

Practitioners face mission-critical choices about balancing economic and environmental sustainability in their projects, including material and operational choices, as well as the degree to which natural elements can balance their carbon equations.
Topics in this track include:
- Cutting-edge research into technologies and methodologies for reducing the construction industry’s carbon impact
- Recognition of technical achievements in construction, including demonstrable carbon-footprint reduction efforts
- Improvements to mechanical systems to improve operational performance
- Examination of methods for more meaningful incorporation of nature into cities

Track F
New or Renew: Cities + Urban

The “New or Renew” question extends beyond buildings to the urban scale. The overall quality of life in cities is affected by city and regional planning and infrastructure decisions, as well as consequential, catalytic projects with a significant impact on their surroundings.

- Realization of Environmental and Sustainability Goals (ESG) in the tall building industry
- Important Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) efforts in the tall building industry
